    by Ruth Jarvis, Marketing --
    After filing into ballroom, have a brief chat with Tom Wroblewski, Bob Picciano and Larry Bowden, the keynote got underway with Tom's introduction to the conference and addressed the name change of the event (basically so they can include more exec's opposed to just techies). One of the things that jumped out at me during his presentation: 7000 Portal customers worldwide and 2000 of those are SMB.

    After his introduction to the conference, Bob Picciano to the stage to provide some information after Lotus, Portal and the Smarter Planet campaign.

    Some interested stats he provided:
    • end of 2008 showed 4 billion phone subscribers
    • $650 billion is wasted because of lost productivity
    • 10 out of the Top 10 Global Banks use Portal
    • 4 out of 5 US Healthcare Insurance Companies are Portal customers
    • 8 out of 10 Top Global Retailers and 9 out of Top 10 US Retailers are Portal Customers

    Larry Bowden took to the stage to offer some technical information about the future of Portal and was is available.
    This includes:
    • Portal 6.1.5 beta (http://aws.amazon.com/) - includes page builders, "lite" mode, site analytics, WebEAV, templates, mashups, advanced Dojo toolkit interface (widgets, controls, etc)
    • Accelerators - WCM 6.1 (http://aws.amazon.com/). 6.1.5 coming soon with web content integration. WebDAV, Document Management, Web Content, Content templates, enhanced syndication report, integrated sit analytics, etc.
    • Portal & Social Networking --> "out of the box" porlets for social net capabilities activities with a integration between Lotus Connections and Portal for faster, lower cost, single point interactions
    • Mobile Accelerators 6.1 --> portal extension, toolkits, update services
    • Industry Toolkits for Portal --> www.ibm.com/WebSphere/portal/industry

    Of course there was a demo by Dan Makuch where he demonstrated some of the features for all the streamlined solutions. If I find a copy of the presentation somewhere I'll let you know.

    You can jump into their ftp site if you're at the conference for the directory and presentations at ftp://10.23.100.0/.

    Off to our booth for setup (#1, giant racecar theme, can't miss us!)
