Great week at LotusSphere (Todd Weimer)

LotusSphere was really interesting this year because I felt like I was at a Web 2.0 conference. IBM seems to be trying to bring the social networking explosion to the workplace collaboration model. I do believe that the young people entering the workforce will love this kind of innovation, however, the existing workforce will certainly need to undertake a cultural change. This is not necessarily a bad thing but it will be hard for business partners to push IBM's message when many industries and companies have not even talked about a cultural shift in how they do business.
I was really impressed with many of the Notes Client and Sametime enhancements that were demo'd at LotusSphere. I like the conference call and Sametime integration features. I think that Sametime needed some significant retooling and IBM may have done a pretty good job doing that.
XPages shows a lot of promise for Domino development. One thing that XPages will do is make it easier for people who have developed on other platforms able to come to the Domino arena. Having worked in RAD, Visual Studio, and other non-enterprise IDEs, Domino designer has always been in a different world. XPages make Domino development more similar to those environments (although Domino will always keep its' uniqueness!).
Davalen had a great week at LotusSphere, we met a lot of great people at our booth. We even got a mention in two of the sessions, thanks to the IBM folks for that. Hope to meet some more interesting people next year, just let it be slightly warmer!
