Over the last few weeks our team has been using CVS for managing the source code for our WebSphere Portlet Factory project. I can say that it is certainly better than nothing but only that. In other environments I have used Rational Clear Case as a more elegant (and more complicated!) solution. I have to confess that while the lack of features in CVS annoys me I prefer the simplicity (and cost) of CVS over the Clear Case solution.

Last week I learned that a prospective client is using Subversion and I reasoned that I needed to become familiar with the project. I am only getting started with this and some important deadlines will force this investigation into my Thanksgiving holiday (shusssssh!) but here are some links worth looking into.

First is the project link itself: http://subversion.tigris.org
Next is the associated eclipse integration project: http://subclipse.tigris.org
Finally, for now, is a developerworks link for eclipse integration: http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/opensource/library/os-ecl-subversion

Some of you have already been down this road and I would love to hear from you. My goal is to test this with Portlet Factory and consider this as a replacement for CVS in my practice.
